Shooting Sports Day - Just for Girl Scouts
Sunday, October 29, 2023
Camp Pigott (24225 Woods Creek Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290)
9:00 to 4 pm
$55
For Girl Scout Ambassadors, Seniors, and 7th/8th grade Cadettes
(must be at least 12 years old to participate)
Come to BSA Camp Pigott and learn how to safely handle and shoot firearms. We will have air guns,
.22 rifles, muzzleloading rifles, shotguns, archery, and pistols (high school only). If there are enough volunteers, there may be slingshots and tomahawks. You don't need to be NRA certified for those if you are able to help.
Scouts can freely rotate through any of these during the day. Adults may also register and shoot.
Why teach shooting sports? Good shooting requires learning positive traits such as patience, determination, focus, attention to detail, and persistence. Since these skills are likewise key elements of leadership, we encourage our girls to take what they learn from any sport or activity in Girl Scouting and apply it to their participation in their communities and world. The firearms they will be learning about are expressly purposed to hit a target. They will be learning gun safety. We are not advocating shooting in particular. We want them to understand how to handle any gun safely.
Instruction will be by NRA certified, BSA trained volunteers. Safety rules for both BSA and GSWW will be followed. If you have questions, refer to the GSWW safety essentials: https://www.girlscoutsww.org/content/dam/girlscouts-girlscoutsww/documents/shooting-sports-safety-activity-checkpoints.pdf
Girls with special needs must have an adult with them as this is considered high risk by council.
Adults are encouraged to attend with the girls. Safety wise numbers must be met. Adults only register and pay if they plan to shoot.
THERE IS A MANDATORY SAFETY MEETING AT 9:15 IN THE LODGE.
If you do not make it, you cannot shoot. There will be no refunds.
Questions: Email Angela at [email protected]
Registration is through Active Works. There is a service fee (`$5) collected by Active. This is not refundable. The high risk form will also be filled out there. Girls cannot register as a troop as individual parents must sign the high risk forms.
Cookie dough (CD) and financial assistance (FA) may be used. You will register and pay as usual. There is a form for you to fill out, and once council deposits the money, you'll be reimbursed the event cost. Financial aid must be submitted 2 weeks before an event. Council will not honor anything post-event.

- Girls will check-in at the lodge. A mandatory safety meeting is at 9:15.
- Bring a sack lunch. Please note that the Camp Pigott lodge is a no peanut zone.
- Dress warmly. Long hair must be put up. No dangling earrings. Shirts/hoodies should be closed as hot ejected casings may catch there. BSA has eye and ear protection available, but please feel free to bring your own. Their glasses are rather scratched up. The ranges are mostly covered. The terrain may be muddy. It is hilly.
- Girls will receive an event patch.
- The camp store will be open with snacks etc. You may earn a BSA or NRA shooting or archery award, so bring money for those. Please keep in mind that volunteers will have a lot of girls to help, and there may not be time to shoot enough to earn awards.
- There is a GS archery badge for Cadettes. You may be able to fulfill some of the requirements. See the link on the archery tab. The badges can be purchased at the Girl Scout store.
- Adults may also register and pay to shoot. Adults are free otherwise.
- Troops, please follow safety-wise guidelines. The girls will be moving throughout the camp to different ranges.
- Girls must be registered Girl Scouts. This will be checked. IRMs are welcome too.
